There are two ways by which you can accept credit cards to complete your business transaction smoothly.

  • Using Your Own Merchant Account: For this step, you should select a bank that allows you to have your own merchant account. There are various requirements to start a merchant account and it varies from country to country. You need to check with your local bank to know more about the requirements they expect.
  • Through a Third Party Merchant: There are lot of companies that are accepting the credit card payments and in exchange for various services and fees. This type of trade is known as “payment gateways”.

Which Method suite me?

The initial cost for having your own merchant account is usually higher than third party merchant services. But there are some merchant account service providers who offer you a free merchant account for free of cost. But that will be compensated on the service that you select.

The transaction fee, processing fee and other fees will be comparatively higher than the commercial merchant account service providers.A free merchant account service provider will be the best according to the customer, but it is not the best choice. A better research and studying about the other merchant account service providers will be the best choice for your business.

Having your own merchant account will make your business look more professional and a highly reputed one. And, the transaction costs are very less when you have a merchant account. The only thing that you have to keep in mind is credit card risk. There is very minimum risk in credit card processing through commercial merchant account service provider and comparatively high in free merchant account service provider.
