Four Key Points in Running a Profitable e-Commerce Site
Starting an e-Commerce business may be tough at first – what with all the planning and budgeting and execution. But once you have everything up and running, you may wonder what’s so difficult about beginning your business in the first place! However, most people forget that in order to run a truly successful and profitable e-Commerce site, they need to identify these four main key points:
1. Your e-Commerce website is your online identity
How you design your website is very important. Not only must it look attractive and appealing to your target market, it must ALSO appear professional and not look as if the site has been done shabbily. Which is why it pays to well, pay more to hire a really good web designer who knows what he or she is doing. Otherwise you may end up with a website that looks pretty but does not serve its purpose – to bring in more customers. First impressions are truly essential – you do not want to turn clients off with garish colors and horrendous layouts. Content also counts – make sure you have relevant information that will appeal to your customers, and take great care to see that every link is working!
When it comes to your products and services, it would be wise to add features that will invoke customers to purchase from you. Present your benefits in an orderly manner so that customers know up front what you are offering – and how it will benefit them!
2. Your merchant account
Having an all-important merchant account is highly important in securing a sound e-Commerce business. A merchant account allows you to accept your customers’ credit cards. Without it, you would definitely be missing out on a huge chunk of profits! When shopping for a merchant account, be sure to do thorough research and sign up with a company who is well experienced in their offerings. You may also want to go with reliable high risk merchant account providers if your business falls into this category.
3. Your shopping cart and secure server
A dependable shopping cart software is without question, one of the most important features that should be present in your website. A good software will collects customers’ orders, lets them see how much they have to pay, collects the billing, shipping and payment details and process the entire order via the payment gateway. Free shopping cart software can easily be obtained but you know what they say: you only get what you pay for. Don’t scrimp on a shopping cart software or it will cost you your business!
4. Your payment gateway
A payment gateway can be likened to a middle person between you and the credit card processors. Without it, customers’ credit card data cannot be sent to a credit card authorization network, and you in turn cannot obtain your money. A payment gateway also helps avoid too many instances of fraud from occurring, especially when situations happen whereby the 3 digit CVV code has been keyed in incorrectly.
