Merchant Accounts Tips for Travel Business Owners
Operating a business in the travel industry may seem harmless to most people but some do not realize that this is classified under the high risk merchants category. As lucrative as your travel business is, you need to discover the merits of getting a merchant account, and issues that will dog you if you are not cautious when acquiring one.
1. Don’t jump into the arms of the first merchant account provider you see
Although your travel business belongs to the high risk category, there are providers who are willing to take the risk. Though not many, there are good high risk merchant services providers who are committed to help you the best they can. Beware other providers who are eager to fleece you and relieve you of your hard earned cash and trust!
2. Find out what is the “catch”
Of course, everything comes with a catch. Even good high risk merchant account providers are quick to set conditions but how many actually revealed what they are? Travel business owners need to know that some providers will not say yes to charges based on tours or cruises but will gladly approve car hire fees and hotel accommodation charges. Knowing that will save you from having your reputation destroyed after customers express anger over having their funds rejected.
3. How much are you approved for?
Don’t dance for joy so soon when you are given the green light to a merchant account. You need to find out the specific limit set on your business so that you know how to make allocations based on that restriction.
4. Uncover hidden fees
Nobody likes to be surprised at the last minute when fee after fee is being charged. Gateway fees, setup fees, and batch fees are only some of the fees that may be unleashed upon you unsuspectingly. Knowing about these beforehand helps alleviate a sudden heart attack!
5. Don’t buy what you don’t need
Merchant providers can be very good salesmen who are out to peddle you their wares. Don’t pay for any feature you don’t need, and should you need them later, you can always ask for them at that time.
