New Online e-Commerce Payment from Verizon Wireless Soon

9 April 2010 No Comment

A new mobile payment method
If all goes well, a groundbreaking online e-Commerce payment solution from Verizon Wireless may be on the cards. Together with Danal, Inc., Verizone Wireless is set to launch BilltoMobile this spring. This payment service allows a whopping total of 91.2 million wireless subscribers the opportunity to buy online and bill it to their mobile bill (BilltoMobile… get it?). In other words, whatever they buy online will be charged to their Verizon Wireless bill on a monthly basis. The limitation here is, however, only digital goods can be purchased. Besides that there will be a monthly $25 spending limit so kids who don’t own credit cards do not have to worry about burgeoning mobile or card bills, unlike this 12 year old who racked up $1,400 in debt after going on a spending spree buying up virtual credits for Farmville, a popular Facebook game.

So what is Danal Inc.‘s role in this service? For one, Danal will work with Verizon Wireless while leveraging on their slew of high profile e-Commerce merchant partners. Together they will integrate vital features such as anti-fraud solutions and subscriber authentication for an enriching online mobile payment experience. Parental control is also yet another much-needed feature lauded by many.

According to Ryan Hughes, vice president of business development at Verizon Wireless:

“Verizon Wireless strives to bring its customers services and features they want and that make their lives simpler. Working with Danal will give our customers the opportunity to make direct online mobile payments with the most secure, feature-rich, convenient method available.”

How it works

In order to conduct a transaction, the customer has to locate the BilltoMobile button on a participating website when making a purchase. To login, they need to provide their mobile numbers as well as mobile billing zip codes. Then, after several seconds, a text message containing a one-time password arrives. This passcode is to be keyed into the online checkout window and after doing so, the transaction is deemed complete! It’s amazing that all this takes only a mere 15 seconds, 20 if you’re a little slow in entering the passcode but still, 15 seconds is pretty darned fast!
