In the online world, shopping cart abandonment is a real problem and most website owners have to deal with it one way or another. Just because a person found a few products they are interested in, it doesn’t mean that they will go through with the order. Here is what you can do if you want to reduce your shopping cart abandonment rate.

Why Are Shoppers Backing Out At The Last Minute?

Finding a solution against shopping cart abandonment is easier for those who can figure out the cause. Unfortunately, the reasons are different from person to person, so pin pointing the motive is quite difficult. You need to take a look at the most common reasons and figure out which one is most likely for your online store.

Is Your Website User-Friendly?

Because many of those who are shopping online are not familiar with the process, you need to make sure that your website can be operated even by people who don’t know how to use a computer. Make sure that your checkout button is visible and that once people reach the checkout page, they only have to fill in a few fields before they make the order. If you add a registration form and email verification, they might get confused and abandon the order. You also have to make sure that your online store is displayed properly in every browser and that your customers don’t have to install additional plug-ins if they want to surf your website.

Does Your Website Inspire Confidence?

Most people who are shopping online are not interested in the way the transaction works until they reach the checkout page. This is when they will decide if they are happy with the payment options you are providing, if they will send you their credit card information and if they are really going to make the order. This is why you should make sure that you offer information about shipping and any other cost in advance. No one wants to spend half an hour searching for the right product only to find that shipping costs twice as much as the product itself. It is your job to make sure that your customers get access to all of the information they need before they reach the checkout page. This way, there will be no surprises and if you have their preferred payment method included, they will most likely place the order.

Dealing With Indecisive Customers

Some of the people who reach the checkout page decide to forget about their order once they see the total amount they have to pay. It is human nature and the best way to deal with it is by offering extra incentive. The moment your customers reach the payment page, you should offer a deal like free shipping, a special prize or a discount coupon for future orders. This way, your customers will feel like they are gaining more than what they are paying for and the chances of shopping cart abandonment will be lowered.

There are three things that make an online business profitable: the idea behind it, the marketing strategy and the website that can sustain it. If you have an amazing idea and you manage to make thousands of people interested, you will be surprised to see that you won’t start making sales until your website is prepared to keep everyone interested and guide them through the process. This is exactly why you should understand how create an e-commerce website that is sales-orientated.

What You Should Be Looking For

Your website needs to have the power to attract people and keep them interested until they make a purchase. The goal is to increase the percentage of buyers though some simple marketing strategies. Instead of getting 10 buyers from 10,000 visits, you can obtain 100 buyers from 1,000 visits. Once you achieve this, you need to focus on making visitors return and on keeping them happy. Most of the work can be done directly through the design and functionality of your website.

How To Make Your E-commerce Website Appeal To Your Buyers

No matter what you’re selling, you have to make sure that people don’t waste their time searching for it. Try keeping the website as user friendly as you can and make sure that anyone can reach any product in less than 3 or 4 clicks. Studies have shown that people lose interest quite rapidly if they don’t get what they’re searching for and you will notice this in your bounce rate.

Take Advantage of Your Offers and Discounts

Another good strategy is making offers and discounts visible. A good deal will always keep potential buyers interested and getting access to it right from the front page is definitely a plus.

You Can’t Buy What You Can’t See

Make sure that the products you are selling have detailed descriptions and are accompanied by clear pictures. One thumbnail is not enough to attract the buyer. If he can see the product that he wants from different angles and in great detail, chances are that he will make a purchase.

Turning Visitors into Buyers

Having a successful online store is not possible without making each product easily accessible through a shopping cart system. Your buyers shouldn’t struggle to checkout their items; once they see a product, buying it shouldn’t be more than one click away. In the checkout page, it is best to display similar products which might be attractive to that particular buyer, based on what he already purchased. A section for feedback is also recommended. This way, your current buyers will advertise products for any other visitor that might stumble upon your website.

Conclusion

In the end, every online business owner should understand that the right website makes all the difference. A few details can have a real impact on your earnings, so you shouldn’t be afraid to experiment and figure out what’s best for you. If you make the right changes and think about what your customers need, you will make them happy.

Nowadays you can find an online store for every product you can think of. Some people believe that the feature that should be a part of any online business is the shopping cart, but a large percentage of these websites seem to think otherwise. There are literally thousands of online shops that don’t have a shopping cart embedded into their website and because of this more people are starting to question the necessity of this e-commerce software.

Online Shopping 101

With millions of potential buyers and thousands of competitors in the online shopping world, you have to ask yourself what makes your website better than any other one. You also have to look at the problem from the consumers’ point of view: will he buy a product if he has to complete an online form every time he makes an order? People who want to spend money online are interested in two things: efficiency and security. If the person has to create a list of products and send an email, you are basically placing road blocks between your visitors and your products.

What Do Buyers Really Want?

Any person who wants to make an online purchase will take a look at the product, its price and decide whether to place an order or not. An online shopping cart will make things as easy as possible: the buyer just has to add the items to the cart and check out. The whole concept of the shopping cart was invented because people needed it, so taking advantage of this sale device should be your priority.

Who Doesn’t Need A Shopping Cart?

Any person who is running an online store should be at least interested in finding the right software solution: there are no exceptions. Even if you only have a couple of products and you don’t get as much traffic as you’d wish, keeping things simple is a must. The right software will make things easier for your buyers, but it will also help you organize shipments and payments.

The Costs Behind an Online Shopping Cart

Setting up the right shopping cart is not what you would call a simple task, so you have to pay someone to do it. You also have to consider the costs of the shopping cart package and be sure to check out if the system has any other fees you should know about. Most companies charge a monthly fee depending on the activity you will have, so you have to analyze each offer carefully. You also have the option of using an open-source shopping cart, which lowers the costs, but you will still have to hire someone who can install it and deal with the problems that might appear.

Making the Decision

Those who want to improve their online stores should make sure that there are using the right shopping cart software. If you don’t have one yet, you should take a look at the market and figure out if getting one is the right choice for your online business.

Rise of PayPal:

If you are looking for a secure banking system which can be used on the Internet, a PayPal account is what you need. It is used for making online transactions on various online stores, for transfer of money between individual users or to receive money for goods that you may have sold, in a secure way. It has even been used by various non profit organizations to receive donations to work for benefit of the society!

Paypal Costs:

Anyone having a valid bank account across most nations of the world can get an account with PayPal without paying any fee. However, in the event of transfer of money from this account to a bank account, it may charge a certain amount from the user. This charge depends on a number of factors such as:

Nationality of the user: Every user is charged in his/her own currency. The charges keep on varying with the country in which the user is registered.

Amount being transferred: Though there is no cap on the amount that can be withdrawn from PayPal account to a bank account, it may charge the user in case the amount being withdrawn is less than a particular sum specified by it.

Paypal Features:

PayPal offers various products and services to its users which can be quite beneficial for them. Different individuals having disparate needs can get services or products as per their needs. For example, individual users can use their account to accept payment from their friends or relatives who may be located in any part of the world. Further, they can receive payment for any item that they might have sold on eBay or any other online auction site or store, using their account.

Merchants can use their account to get payment from their customers easily. If the customer is also having such account, he or she can take its help to make payment for the goods or services bought from website of the merchant. This has resulted in tremendous ease in payment for the customers along with increased security of making payments.

It has also launched a debit card which can be used by its account holders in various countries to use for shopping in their own currencies. The users are provided a number of offers on their debit cards such as cash back, reward points etc which can be used to shop various goods on discount! All in all, it is quite a useful account and if you have anything to do with online transactions, it is a must have product for you.

Safe to use credit cards again?
You know the economy is recovering when more and more people are spending with their credit cards again. Last October, AMEX reported that spending on its cards increased to a healthy level for the first time in 2009. Figures have been on the decline for the past few months, but after suffering from a 10 percent decline in August and a 5 percent decline in September, the guys from AMEX are heaving a huge sigh of relief as consumers are now not as conservative in ...

Safe to use credit cards again?
You know the economy is recovering when more and more people are spending with their credit cards again. Last October, AMEX reported that spending on its cards increased to a healthy level for the first time in 2009. Figures have been on the decline for the past few months, but after suffering from a 10 percent decline in August and a 5 percent decline in September, the guys from AMEX are heaving a huge sigh of relief as consumers are now not as conservative in their card spending. Could this be because the holidays are approaching?

Black Friday, Cyber Monday, retail giants come out to play!
Our sources say that most of the consumers who shop with their credit cards are likely to purchase items online. BloggingStock.com hinted that Black Friday online sales were higher than that of its offline counterpart. Cyber Monday was even more successful, with online retail giants such as Amazon, Wal-Mart and Target have been hard at work to lure consumers back to their online stores. They did so by tempting them with heavily discounted Garmin GPS Systems, one of the most sought after gifts during Thanksgiving and possibly Christmas. Then, there’s a bevy of beautiful netbooks from Sony being offered with rebates, not forgetting the affordable iPod Touch offered by Amazon.com. With all these goodies available at rock bottom prices, what Web-savvy shopper could resist?

Coupon sites: A catalyst?
Some people even went as far to say that Cyber Monday would not be as successful this year without coupon sites. For those not in the know, coupon sites are websites that spread the news about the latest Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals and gave out coupon codes on top of these bargains. CyberMonday.com enjoyed a healthy traffic surge of 50% compared to last year’s statistics. This shows that more consumers are willing to seek convenient bargains online rather than shop conservatively at brick and mortar retail stores. Interestingly, according to Onlinebusiness.volusion.com, page views per session fell approximately 25% while product views dropped 19%. Does this mean that online consumers are shopping more based on their whims now? Time, and perhaps the Christmas shopping statistics will tell.
